“Let’s Explore What We Could Build Together.”
ABOUT THE GZC DIRECTOR
Daniel Sansour is the Director of Ground Zero Concepts, bringing more than 25 years of hands-on experience across sales, management, business operations, digital marketing and lead generation.
- 1999–2004 | HARVEY NORMAN:
Spent five years with Harvey Norman Computer Superstore in Auburn, NSW, progressing from salesperson to 2IC, Section Manager, Technical Services Manager and eventually Store Manager. Managing a team of around 30 staff, provided hands-on experience in sales, advertising, marketing, supplier relationships, staff management and the day-to-day operation of a large retail business.
- 2004–2011 | FIRST ONLINE BUSINESS:
Established his first online business, using the supplier relationships and product knowledge developed during his time at Harvey Norman. This was his first step into building and operating a business through online channels.
- 2011–2016 | AUSTRALIAN REMOVALS & SERVICE BUSINESS:
Built a furniture removal business from one truck to three and managed a growing team. Secured work with Life Without Barriers supporting newly arrived refugees, along with contracts and ongoing relationships with furniture and bedding companies. During this period, he worked closely with comparison and lead-generation platforms including Find a Mover, HiPages, Oneflare and ServiceSeeking.
- 2016–CURRENT | GZC & DIGITAL LEAD GENERATION:
Established Ground Zero Concepts and began developing removalist brands that generated enquiries for other removal companies needing new work but without the digital capabilities to generate it themselves. This evolved into a broader focus on websites, digital marketing, lead generation, business systems and the development of GZC’s own digital brands.
THIS ISN’T A BUSINESS MODEL CREATED FROM THEORY — IT’S BUILT ON MORE THAN 25 YEARS OF REAL-WORLD BUSINESS EXPERIENCE.
“Experience Isn’t Just What You’ve Done — It’s What You’ve Learned Along The Way.”
WHY I KEEP GZC IN-HOUSE
Trial and error has been a big part of building GZC. Over the years, some things worked, others didn’t — but every mistake created a lesson and, more importantly, a better way of doing things in the future.
After working with developers, marketing companies and other outsourced services across different businesses, one lesson became very clear: the more GZC could learn to control in-house, the faster we could move, the more attention we could give to the details and the less we had to rely on someone else when something needed to be done.
The lessons that cost money:
- WAITING ON DEVELOPERS:
When a website went down or something important broke, waiting days or sometimes weeks for an external company to respond could mean lost enquiries, lost revenue and unnecessary downtime.
- COMMUNICATION PROBLEMS:
Explaining an idea to someone doesn’t always mean they fully understand the business, the objective or the small details that matter to the end result.
- UNRELIABLE SUPPLIERS:
Developers and freelancers can change direction, become unavailable or disappear altogether, leaving unfinished projects and systems that somebody else then has to understand.
- PAYING FOR EVERY CHANGE
When every adjustment, fix or improvement requires another quote or invoice, businesses can become reluctant to make the small improvements they actually need.
- TOO MANY PEOPLE INVOLVED
When different developers, marketers and suppliers control different parts of a business, problems can easily become someone else’s responsibility.
- OUTSOURCED MARKETING & SEO:
GZC has spent money on advertising and SEO that didn’t produce the expected results. One of the biggest lessons was that an outside company will rarely understand or care about a brand at the same level as the people actually building it.
- OVERCOMPLICATED SYSTEMS:
Not every business needs expensive technology or complicated automation from day one. Sometimes the simplest solution is the best place to start.
- IDEAS THAT DIDN’T WORK:
Some ideas looked great on paper but didn’t work commercially. Learning when to change direction is just as important as knowing when to keep going.
TODAY, GZC CAN HANDLE all OF THE BRAND, WEBSITE, MARKETING, SEO, SYSTEMS AND DIGITAL DEVELOPMENT IN-HOUSE. WHEN SOMETHING NEEDS TO CHANGE, WE CAN ACT instantly — RATHER THAN WAITING FOR SOMEONE ELSE TO DO IT.
“Some of the most valuable parts of these businesses were learned the expensive way.”
HOW GZC EVOLVED
GZC didn’t start with a finished business model. It evolved through more than 25 years of real-world business experience, from retail management and running a transport business to e-commerce, digital marketing and eventually lead generation.
When GZC first moved deeper into the digital space, the focus was web design. Daniel completed a Google UX Design course, learned WordPress, design and branding, and then continued expanding into social media management, SEO, digital marketing, business strategy and operations.
Working with a portfolio of clients created another important lesson — service businesses are often limited by time. There are only so many clients you can personally manage and only so many hours in a week. As the client list grows, so do deadlines, demands and the pressure to constantly deliver more.
TIME-BASED SERVICES → DIGITAL SYSTEMS → LEAD GENERATION → SCALABLE BRANDS
Lead generation changed the way GZC looked at the opportunity. Rather than selling more of our own time, we could build digital platforms that connect customers with existing businesses already looking for more work.
The same platform, systems and digital infrastructure could then support more providers, more customers and more markets without having to rebuild the business every time it grew.
THE JOURNEY WASN’T PERFECT. MONEY WAS SPENT, MISTAKES WERE MADE AND IDEAS WERE TESTED THAT DIDN’T WORK. BUT EACH STAGE HELPED GZC BETTER UNDERSTAND WHAT TO BUILD, WHAT TO AVOID AND WHERE THE REAL OPPORTUNITY WAS.
“GZC Wasn’t Built From One Idea — It Evolved From Every Lesson Along The Way.”
BUILDING A BUSINESS THE RIGHT WAY
Trust is one of the biggest challenges in the online world. There are plenty of exaggerated promises, shortcuts and businesses focused on the next transaction rather than the long-term relationship.
GZC takes a different approach. We believe that doing the small things properly, being transparent when something goes wrong and treating people fairly will build a stronger business in the long run — even when doing the right thing sometimes costs us money.
WHAT THAT MEANS IN PRACTICE:
- WE DON’T MAKE UNREALISTIC PROMISES:
Not every lead will convert and not every campaign will perform exactly as expected. We would rather be realistic about what we’re providing.
- WE DON’T HIDE PROBLEMS:
When something isn’t working, we want to understand why, address it and improve the system rather than ignore it.
- WE SUPPORT OUR PROVIDERS:
The CRQ and CCQ Performance Promise exists because we don’t simply want to sell leads and walk away. If a provider isn’t achieving a reasonable return, we want to understand why and help identify practical ways to improve the outcome.
- WE PROTECT OUR QUOTE SEEKERS:
The people submitting enquiries are trusting our brands to connect them with legitimate service providers. If a provider behaves in a way that doesn’t meet our standards, we’re prepared to remove them from the platform and compensate the quote seeker.
- WE TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR OUR MISTAKES:
If GZC genuinely gets something wrong and someone deserves to be compensated, we fix it fairly rather than looking for a reason not to.
- THE REPUTATION OF THE BRAND COMES FIRST:
A trusted brand with happy providers and customers is worth considerably more in the long run than squeezing every possible dollar from every transaction.
IF THE CHOICE IS BETWEEN MAKING $50K A MONTH WITH CONSTANT PROBLEMS, UNHAPPY CLIENTS AND A DAMAGED REPUTATION — OR $45K RUNNING A STRONGER BUSINESS, TREATING PEOPLE FAIRLY AND DOING THINGS PROPERLY — WE’LL TAKE THE $45K.
“A Strong Brand Isn’t Just Built By What You Sell — It’s Built By How You Treat People.”
THIS IS A LIVING SYSTEM
It can be easy to look at the website, systems and processes and think: “It’s built — now we just need to sell it.”
But a digital business is never really finished. The internet, technology, customer behaviour and the market around it are constantly changing — and the business needs to change with them.
WHAT CONTINUALLY EVOLVES:
- THE WEBSITE:
Maintenance, security, updates and ongoing improvements.
- ADVERTISING:
Campaigns need testing, monitoring and optimisation as real data comes in.
- SEO:
Search engines, competitors and search behaviour continually change.
- THIRD-PARTY SYSTEMS:
Google, advertising platforms, software and other services regularly change their systems, policies and requirements.
- CUSTOMER BEHAVIOUR:
Forms, messaging and the customer journey need to evolve around how people actually use the platform.
- PROVIDER FEEDBACK:
Conversations with providers will identify problems and opportunities we couldn’t discover without operating the business.
- PRICING & PACKAGES:
These can be refined as we learn what the market responds to and what produces the best results.
- PROCESSES & TECHNOLOGY:
As volume increases, better automation, software and eventually dedicated apps can make the operation easier to manage.
- NEW OPPORTUNITIES:
New markets, partnerships and revenue opportunities will emerge as the business develops.
GZC’S ROLE IS TO CONTINUALLY MAINTAIN, IMPROVE AND DEVELOP THE DIGITAL INFRASTRUCTURE BEHIND THE BUSINESS — WHILE YOU HELP US LEARN WHAT THE BUSINESS NEEDS FROM THE FRONT LINE.
“The Platform Isn’t A Finished Product — It’s A Business That Will Continue To Evolve.”
START SIMPLE — LEARN FROM REAL DATA
The foundations are already built. The next step isn’t to overcomplicate the business — it’s to start operating it, learn from real customers and providers, and let real data guide what we build next.
THE APPROACH:
- START MANAGEABLE:
Build the first provider groups, learn the conversations and establish the day-to-day processes.
- FIRST TARGET: 5 STRONG GROUPS:
Enough activity to generate meaningful feedback and operating data without trying to grow too quickly.
- LEARN FROM THE MARKET:
Understand what providers and quote seekers actually need, what works and where the bottlenecks are.
- REFINE AS WE GO:
Improve the offer, pricing, processes, advertising and systems based on what we learn.
- AUTOMATE WHAT MAKES SENSE:
Introduce better CRM, automation and technology as volume increases and we know exactly what needs improving.
- BUILD FOR THE FUTURE:
Dedicated software and apps can come later when the size of the business and real data justify the investment.
“Start Simple. Learn What Works. Then Build On It.”
YOUR DUTIES
START BY LEARNING THE BUSINESS…
YOUR DAY-TO-DAY ROLE:
- Communicate with providers and build relationships.
- Introduce new providers and help them get started.
- Follow up with providers and opportunities.
- Forward and monitor leads where required.
- Learn the website, services, packages and pricing.
- Gather feedback and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Work closely with GZC as the business develops.
“Learn The Business. Build The Process. Then Teach Others To Run It.”
THE PROVIDER MODEL — WHERE WE WANT TO GET TO
The current prepaid model gives us a simple way to start, test the market and build strong provider relationships.
THE LONG-TERM PLAN:
1. BUILD — Establish 5–10 strong provider groups using prepaid lead packages.
2. PROVE — Deliver results, learn what works and build provider trust.
3. GROW ORGANIC — Use SEO to generate more enquiries without relying entirely on paid advertising.
4. OFFER TRIALS — Use excess and low-cost organic leads to let new providers experience the platform before committing.
5. BUILD RECURRING REVENUE — Convert successful provider relationships into ongoing monthly subscription options.
THE STRONGER OUR ORGANIC LEAD GENERATION BECOMES, THE MORE FLEXIBILITY WE HAVE TO OFFER TRIALS, PROVE THE VALUE OF THE PLATFORM AND BUILD LONG-TERM PROVIDER RELATIONSHIPS.
“First Prove The Value. Then Build The Relationship.”
BUILDING MORE THAN A LEAD-GENERATION WEBSITE
The first priority is to build the core business and provider network. As the brand grows, we can then look beyond lead generation and develop strategic partnerships around the industry.
future opportunites could include:
- INDUSTRY PARTNERS — Storage, packing, cleaning product suppliers, insurance and other complementary services.
- PROPERTY PARTNERS — Real estate agencies, property managers and other businesses connected to people moving or cleaning or requiring services.
- MEDIA PARTNERS — Radio, newspapers, online media and other promotional opportunities.
- INDUSTRY ASSOCIATIONS — Building credibility and relationships within the market.
- NATIONAL BRANDS — Exploring larger commercial, referral, sponsorship and cross-promotional partnerships.
THE MORE CUSTOMERS, PROVIDERS AND MARKET PRESENCE THE BRAND BUILDS, THE MORE VALUABLE THOSE RELATIONSHIPS CAN BECOME.
“Build The Platform First. Then Build The Opportunities Around It.”
WHAT COULD THIS BECOME?
The first goal is to build a strong business. The long-term goal is to build the systems, people and structure that allow the business to operate without either of us having to manage every task personally.
The journey:
BUILD THE PROVIDER NETWORK
↓
GROW THE ENQUIRIES & MARKETS
↓
STRENGTHEN SEO & RECURRING REVENUE
↓
IMPROVE SYSTEMS & AUTOMATION
↓
BUILD & TRAIN THE TEAM
↓
MANAGE → DIRECT → DELEGATE
The end goal:
GZC continues to manage the digital infrastructure, marketing and strategy.
You develop a team to manage the day-to-day provider and customer side of the business.
Over time, both of our roles can move towards managing the people, direction and growth of the business — rather than doing every task ourselves.
THE GOAL ISN’T TO CREATE ANOTHER JOB FOR OURSELVES. IT’S TO BUILD A BUSINESS THAT GIVES US MORE CONTROL OVER OUR TIME, WHERE WE WORK AND HOW WE CHOOSE TO LIVE.
“Build It Properly Today, So It Can Give You More Freedom Tomorrow.”
